I don’t care what anyone says. New Year’s Eve is always one of the most magical nights of the year. I get to stay up late, drink champagne, kiss Mr. Bets and wear as many sparkly things as I want, thank you very much. Normally we do a fancy multi-course dinner party with friends but this year we’re headed out for a night on the town. Although I have NO IDEA what I’m wearing, preparations are well underway for all of my accouterment. So far my NYE essentials include:
- something sleeveless and fabulous
- a glittery gold clutch
- piles of sparkly vintage jewelry
- my new favorite deodorant*
- nail polish, in red or bright pink—depends on the outfit
- one tube of glossy nude lipstick
- q-tips for smoky eye touchups
- purse-size fragrance
- mints for midnight
*Do not underestimate the power of good deodorant! Especially if you’re planning to party like it’s 1999. I didn’t know it was possible to love a deo, but I do. The same Dove Go Sleeveless Chamomile Deodorant that inspired me to get my arms in shape has become a highlight of my morning. Just wait until you get a whiff—you’ll see. It also soothes shaving irritation, softens skin with those famous Dove ¼ moisturizers, and provides 48-hour protection. So the estimated 50 percent of you who are going sleeveless this holiday season can wave your hands in the air like you just don’t care.
Any NYE beauty tips + tricks we need to know about? Do tell.

Hello lovelies! I'm Elizabeth Dehn, a beauty writer + lifestyle editor who's equally fanatical about lip gloss as juice cleansing. I live in Minneapolis with Mr. Bets and our white lab, Molly Thomas . . .

JUST now reading this one! For years we have had a party at home – mostly because we have young children and finding a babysitter on NYE is impossible! We have fireworks for the kids and then at 8:00 p.m. a “kids countdown” complete with sparkling cider! Once they are all in bed – it is time to turn up the music and start dancing! Important style pieces for me on NYE? An awesome top (this year a cool black tank from Forever 21), LOTS of sparkly jewlery and some killer sparkly heels! So much fun! Happy 2013!
