I’m not exactly sure when my undying hatred for stubbly legs began, but since my teenage years I’ve been a super-tickler for clean-shaven legs. And now that short-shorts and dresses are in daily rotation and poolside sessions are popping up on my weekly calendar, I thought it would be a good time to share some of my favorite drugstore discoveries for achieving soft, sheeny, prickle-free legs. —Meghan
.
The tool: If you’re still using simple, straight disposable razors (like these) please stop. They’re wasteful and they do a crap job. For a couple extra bucks, pony up for Gillette’s new Venus & Olay combo ($12). Five blades impart a crazy clean shave with a single stroke and the clever Olay-filled moisture bars leave a surprisingly potent dose of nourishment behind. .
The cream: I tested EOS Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream ($5) last summer and I haven’t looked back. Yes, using a non-foaming cream took a little getting used to, but for silky soft legs I’d go through harder adjustments. Since I’m often crunched for time, I appreciate that you can use this stuff on dry skin. I’m also a fan that its paraben- and phthalate-free. The unscented kind is my jam, but vanilla lovers might like the softly scented Vanilla Bliss variety. Tip: Look on Amazon for deals on multi-packs!
.
The moisturizer: Do you know how lotion commercials brag about products that “lock moisture in?” Well Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel ($4) is one that truly does. I know this because I see it happen every day when I put it on after showering. For this gel to really work wonders, you must apply it to damp skin. The wetter the better, truly! I used a quarter-sized amount on each leg and reap the rewards of soft, supple legs all day long.
.
The icing on the cake? I just learned about Champneys Mediterranean Bliss Shimmering Body Oil ($11 at Target), a dry body oil infused with a subtle gold shimmer and a summery fragrance. It’s rumored to be popular on the set of “Pretty Little Liars.” Sounds like a glowing addition to my summer skincare routine, especially now that I’m working up a little bit of a tan. Have you tried it? Would I like it? If I get my mitts on some, I’ll for sure let you know if it’s up to snuff.
Ooh, I need to check out the EOS ASAP ;) I’ve been currently using the 3way beauty bar for shaving. I haaaaaate shaving. Hate it.

I tried the fancy shavers last month and they did not do the trick so I went back to the generic target ones, I will try the EOS cream though, that stuff looks amazing.

I stole a brand new schik (sp?) razor from my husband. Four blades, you can’t go wrong. They aren’t cheap and they’re heavy but they give you the closest shave ever. I just hate having to spend $ on refills. :o(

I LIVE for that baby oil gel.
Can’t wait for you to try this Champney’s stuff, I need it
Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave is by far the BEST shave cream ever. I tried EOS, and I just didn’t love it, it didn’t have enough slip to make my razor glide without giving me bumps. Every single person that I’ve told about it has raved – including men!

love love EOS, especially when I get lazy and have to dry shave; it’s perfect for that! (and it might even leave my legs smoother…!)

CRAZY about the EOS, too! And FYI girls: Mr. Bets thinks the unscented is about as good a shave as the $30 creams he’s used.

Janice, thanks for the heads up on the TJ’s cream. I’ll keep my eyes out for it!
I am totally in love with those razors! I received one in my Allure Beauty Box and I won’t go back to anything else. I love EOS brand products, so I’m very excited to give the cream a try! And lastly, I’ve loved baby oil on my legs for years. It’s actually a great all over body moisturizer!
Tried the Johnsons Baby Oil Gel this morning and am happy to report that my gams are as soft and moisturized now as if I had just put this stuff on. Arid corporate office air has no effect. Thank you so much for the recommendation!!
@Iga – I’m not a fan of mineral oil on my face (it’s pore clogging) and it only sits on the surface in body products, but shave cream is so temporary I can overlook it!

@BeautyBets Oh I see! Thanks! I will be more flexible then ;)
Love, LoVe, LOVE the Eos shaving cream. I have very sensitive skin, and it’s the ONLY think that works to not get razor bumps.

Kiss My Face makes shaving creams as well, and I prefer their unscented version to EOS’. I definitely recommend trying that one out! One bottle of that lasts longer than the EOS stuff, and it feels even smoother.

Girls, don’t waste your time with crappy drugstore products and useless methods. The solution to shaving is traditional wetshaving. You grab a brush and a dab of Al’s Shaving Products (Boheme) and whip a marvelous lather that will give you the closest shave in the world. Boheme smells so good that I get lots of compliments and the scent contains essential oils, yummmm! Using a traditional DE razor also helps but good lather is a must.

I tried EOS last year but I tossed it as soon as I found out about the ingredients – I’m not a big fan of mineral oil. You?

Will this work for underarms too?
