While my everyday skincare routine is already packed with natural products that do their job, I also rely on some holistic supplements that help my skin glow and stay clear.
.
Omega 3, 6 + 9: These potent fatty acids keep skin bright by combating inflammation and balancing moisture levels. There are a variety of omega supplements you can take—fish oil, safflower oil, krill oil, etc.—just be sure whichever you choose is mercury-free. I take one soft gel a day of this omega blend and have noticed a dramatic decrease in cystic breakouts and redness.
.
Antioxidants: Want younger-looking skin? Make friends with vitamins C + E. Both combat evil free radicals in our body (the culprit of premature aging!) and protect skin by speeding up our natural repair system. I take 400mg of Vitamin E and 1000mg of Vitamin C a day.
.
Gamma Linolenic Acids: Like omegas, GLAs are also effective anti-inflammatories and promote healthy growth of skin, hair + nails. There are a few choices when taking GLAs. Borage oil, black currant oil + evening primrose oil are the most widely available. Borage oil has been known to slow the process of hair loss. Primrose oil is great for those who suffer from PMS or menopause, and black currant oil (my fave) is particularly effective at treating skin conditions (such as eczema, rosacea, acne) and dry/brittle hair + nails. 500mg twice a day will do the trick!
.
While supplements are not medicinal treatments or a cure-all, combined with a healthy diet and a green skincare routine you can bet they’ll make you prettier. Have you tried any? –Hannah
I’m so surprised that folic acid isn’t on your list.
Thanks for the great post!

Rose – it’s a good one! I take a prenatal vitamin daily which is packed with folic acid, but since I consider the prenatal a “daily multi” vitamin, I left it off the list – but you’re right, it’s so good for your complexion & hair!

So far I’ve only used zinc to promote healthier skin, but I may look into GLAs now – thanks for this post!

Norwegian Salmon oil! I swear it has cured my eczema. I take 3 capsules everyday but if I miss a few days the flaking begins all over again.
