After a weekend of green beer and such, my body needs another kind of green beverage. I’ve been dying to try this smoothie recipe from Kimberly Snyder and today’s the day. The clinical nutritionist to the stars (ie Fergie, Drew Barrymore, McSteamy) and author of The Beauty Detox Solution masterminded the Glowing Green Smoothie. It’s detoxifying, energizing, skin brightening and clearing, AND you don’t need a juicer to make it. I already know I want one every morning. Who’s with me?
.
Glowing Green Smoothie
Makes 2-4 servings*
1 1/2 c. very cold water
6 c. spinach, chopped
5 c. (one head) organic romaine lettuce, chopped
2 stalks organic celery
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon
.
Optional Ingredients
These herbs help eliminate heavy metals from the body.
1/2 c. organic cilantro
1/2 cu. organic parsley
.
Directions
Add water, spinach and chopped romaine to the blender. Blend at low speed until smooth. Add celery, pear, apple and herbs and blend at high speed. Finish with the banana and lemon juice. Drink up!
.
*For a single serving, eliminate the celery and one fruit.
Love this! I drink one every am. When I don’t, i fell totally off my game. Enjoy! It totally balances out the bad things we tend to eat from time to time.
I don’t usually drink green things, but it does look yummy. ANy idea how many calories 1 serving is?

I do this every morning. I bought a vitamix which is by far one of the best kitchen tools ever. Also helpful are bags of fruits and veg from Trader Joe’s.

Green smoothies make me feel sooo good, but I’m a slacker about making them. The calories are basically irrelevant, as I’ve never encountered a diet plan that restricts veggies. :)

I don’t know the calorie count, but if that’s a concern I’d skip the bananas. Everything else is so low in calories.
bananas ARE low in calories, relative to their density, FYI <3 so no worries. This is guilt free.

Veggies are usually always considered “free” in the realm of calories. As far as fruit, you should count those due to the sugar/carb content. For the fruits listed here, it’d come out to approximately 250 calories depending on the size of each piece. Hope that helps!
Adding an ounce of Apple Cider Vinegar would make this a super, super food with alkaline producing qualities. Must try!

This is no doubt one of the best smoothie recipes for glowing skin. I drink it every day. Avocados can be added too as they are amazing for the skin as well xxx
@edina Oo – avocado! That’s what I’m going to start doing when I have leftovers. Thank you!

Can you use baby spinach or does it need to be regular spinach?

Just tried this smoothie. It didn’t taste bad but it also didn’t taste good. Any tips for tweaking it for more/better flavor? Thanks!

I think the banana makes it sweeter, if that helps. I also use more lemon to mellow out the grassiness of the greens. Ultimately the higher the fruit content the more palatable – but the less nutrient rich as well.
