Bare Escentuals has been launching new products left and right lately (the eyebrow pencils = my fav). Today they roll out a much-anticipated line of BareMinerals READY eyeshadows. These were hard for me to embrace since BE has always touted loose minerals as its major selling point over pressed-powder competitors. But, ever the addict, I had to give them a go. -
The wearability of the shadows is amazing—I dare say they wear even longer than the original loose shadows. However, I found the pigments to be a bit harder to blend than the loose shadows—especially on top of primer. As for the integrity of the pressed shadows, Bare Escentuals claims that they are powered by a proprietary SeaNutritive Mineral Complex and powerful antioxidants, cold-pressed borage-oil, caffeine and cucumber. Like the loose, they remain free of parabens, binders, fillers, and synthetic chemicals. If you’re the sort who’s intimidated by the idea of the loose minerals, the new pressed option is fabulous. It’s also great for women who travel a lot and don’t want the potential mess. I don’t really fall into either of those categories, but I do enjoy the convenience of tossing the small compact in my purse for touch ups during a night out. –Danielle

The new BareMinerals READY eyeshadows are available in 46 shades and palette options of 2 or 4 shadows. Coming in November: two limited-edition 8-shadow palettes. Find them online or at your local Bare Escentuals Boutique.
I am really surprised that Bare Escentuals decided to go with a pressed shadow. I feel like it’s a double edged sword. While it’s longer lasting, it seems like it takes a lot more effort to apply. I would be concerned about tugging at my lid too much. The minerals shadows go on feather light without any added pressure. Any thoughts?
Totally agree. It is certainly an interesting move for them! And I agree that it seems somewhat hypocritical since their message has always been somewhat against pressed products. Personally I will be sticking with the loose minerals. :)
