On any given day, all kinds of deep questions skip through my mind. (Examples: “Why aren’t there peanut butter pretzel M&Ms?” “Do Bloody Marys count as vegetable servings?” “Is it going to rain tonight?”) On more than one such day, I’ve pondered—no, lamented—the number of hours I’ve spent in my lifetime blow-drying my hair. Unlike the rest of my super fun beauty routine, blow-drying is a boring, time-consuming means to an end that I quite frankly hate. So you can imagine my delight upon discovering a product that’s cut my blow-drying time in half. (HALF!!!) Picked up on a whim during an ULTA shopping trip, Salon Grafix 450° Maximum Heat Protectant Spray ($5.99) not only protects hair from all manner of heat styling, but ups the effectiveness of your hot tools. Meaning, you’ll spend a lot less time blow-drying and a lot more time enjoying life. Did I mention it makes may hair softer too? And costs less than a Bloody Mary? Now, what to do with all that spare time… –Meghan

Hello lovelies! I'm Elizabeth Dehn, a beauty writer + lifestyle editor who's equally fanatical about lip gloss as juice cleansing. I live in Minneapolis with Mr. Bets and our white lab, Molly Thomas . . .

I’m excited about this find. I’ve been looking for an alternative to this http://www.oribe.com/index.php/products/view/59/royal-blowout-heat-styling-spray/, which is wonderful but kind of expensive.
I’m going to have to try this! We bleach blondes have to do everything we can to not dry our hair out even more! I have to plug that a tourmaline hair dryer, while not thrifty, saves on dry time, and hair damage (and thus hair-damage combatant products). Made all the difference for me!
Oh I love the sound of this product! Especially with winter coming….fantastic! The photo- loving it.
I LOVE the picture included with this post!
Sounds ideal for taming frizzies, which are my biggest problem while blow drying. Does this work on dry hair, too? (BTW, I believe I mentioned in a previous comment that I used Aveda products – they also had a heat-activated spray for this purpose, I believe..). Thanks!
Adriana, I have exceptionally dry hair and it really has helped soften it up. I don’t deal too much with frizzies, but I’ll bet you combine the spray with your favorite frizz tamer and be in good shape. Let me know if you give it a whirl!
Bought it, used it, love it! My boyfriend loves it too because I get out the door faster in the mornings and we car pool!
Elizabeth, I saw you on TCL today and Elizabeth started mentioning something about the yolks for the hair treatment you made with egg whites and avocado. You never finished because John distracted you, and I was wondering what the yolks might do?…….
Also, I have very fine, dry hair and am looking for a thermal spray to use before blowdrying and using a flat iron. Do you have any suggestions? I recently tried Redken iron silk by recommendation of my hair stylist and it left my hair feeling worse than before.
And, this may be a dumb question, but if you spray a product on damp hair to protect from blowdrying, do you need to spray before straightening or will it still work and protect from both?
Hi Amanda! Thanks for tuning in! For the avocado hair mask, you can swap the egg whites for yolks if you need extra conditioning.
I recommend the Living Proof Full line for your hair! The thickening cream is my favorite – http://www.livingproof.com/full/
Aveda volumizing tonic is also amazing.
Like you, I use a thermal spray before blowdrying. I don’t use it again before straightening or curling, but I usually finish with a drop or two of MoroccanOil on the ends and any flyaways. We like this $6 spray: http://www.beautybets.com/2011/08/how-to-cut-your-blow-dry-time-in-half/
I am wondering if Meghan can tell me which ULTA she happened to find the Salon Grafix spray at? I went to a couple different ones and they said they didn’t carry that particular spray.
Also, Elizabeth, in making the Avocado and egg hair mask, can use use just one whole egg (1 egg white and 1 yolk) or would you recommend doing either the whites or the yolks, but not mixing?
Amanda – Totally! That’s what I would do too – just use one whole egg!
Amanda, I found my spray at my favorite Ulta in Roseville. Here’s the link to the exact location: http://stores.ulta.com/store/index.php?action=state&state=MN&stores_number=255&zoom=2&latitude=45.006183&longitude=-93.169691
Good luck!
