So it turns out I don’t have as much willpower as I thought. You might recall that after the first week on this diet, I was so exhausted I upped my daily caloric intake from 500 to 800. That definitely did the trick in terms of energy, but it also slowed down the weight-loss process to a screeching halt. Or maybe that was the HOMEMADE OREO I ate last week. Or the caramel apple cake I “tasted” at a lunch meeting. Or the avocado pizza I nibbled on at a restaurant opening. Or the mimosa(s) I drank yesterday at brunch. Whatever the case, I only lost one pound last week—for a total of five since I started this thing. I’m not complaining; it’s completely my fault. (This is the moment when all of you HCG die-hards out there resist the urge to leave nasty comments about the diet only working if you stick to it. Duh. And, I feel badly enough as it is). But it’s not all bad. I’ve dropped a dress size. My jeans have never fit better. My stomach is flat again. I get full faster and have far fewer cravings. I realize now how much I had been consuming, even it was mostly healthy foods. Those handfuls of almonds here and string cheese there actually DO add up. So does the alcohol. I’ve also inspired Mr. Bets to start this diet. Instead of the usual Valentine’s Day cupcakes, we’ll be having strawberry protein shakes for dinner tonight. Isn’t it romantic??
P.S. Only one more week to go before I can eat like an (almost) normal personal again. Until then, I’m going to give it my best and try to lose a few more lbs.

GOOD LUCK…stay strong!!!!
Good work! Not everything in life has to be in absolute. Thanks for the reminder. xx

The social aspect of a diet/cleanse IS (by far) the hardest thing for me. It’s easy to follow a plan when you have a set schedule (that doesn’t include fun meals with friends) but add in some curveballs and suddenly I’m hunched over a table eating an entire Chipotle burrito bowl (with chips and guac, thank you very much) like a rabid dog. What I’ve realized is that I CAN enjoy myself while out with friends but the meals I do have dietary (and emotional) control over, I should be mindful of what I eat. Oh, and when I do find myself eating macarons by the fistful, I can always wipe my mouth and start over.
Bets, I agree that realizing how much we consume is a very important point. Some diets have you write down everything that goes in your mouth….today I have had 2 cookies, a small piece of pie, and a tiny piece of cake in addition to my meals. YIkes.
No such thing as a fail, Ms. Bets, certainly not in this case. Sounds to me like you’ve learned to modify your diet and be more aware of what you’re putting in your mouth – that’s at least 3/4 of the battle. And congratulations for not giving up after a few little slips here and there (at Urban Eatery, perhaps? The avocado pizza sounds very familiar!) – that’s where most people fail. After a hiccup they’ll just give up. So I commend you for getting back to it! Great attitude!
Post HCG diet results? I can’t find anything that gives us a final review and your total weight/inches lost. I’m gearing up to start on 4/4…. still looking to gather as much info as possible. And also the best place to puchase the drops.
Thanks,
Norma
Hi Norma – I lost six pounds total, which is nothing compared to what most people lose! (10-20 lbs) I just couldn’t function on 500 calories a day, which is one reason this diet is so controversial. I would urge you to find a doctor or practitioner to speak with first. If you’re in Minneapolis, Barbara at Aurora Spa is a wonderful resource and she also sells the drops. Otherwise, they’re available at GNC.
So how is after? It has been enough time. I did this diet 5 times last time during the time you did it. I lost 20 last time. But I have since gained it ALL back! Despite eating very healthy Vegan. So i am curious how others have done. I feel like I was frauded on this diet a bit, I knnow 5 times and I didn’t stop trying each time I would lose but then gain it all back and I thought I was the one making the mistake but I don’t think so any more.
