And you thought this was going to be a fashion post! Although I’m not much for rules, I usually do abide by this one—except when it comes to my winter white coat and my makeup. Once I let my self-tan fade, I need something else to brighten up my face. Over the weekend, I reached for a perennial favorite: this shimmery white pencil, applied just to the corners of my eyes. There are lots of opaque white pencils in the mags this fall, but in broad daylight they tend to look too bright and chalky—not very natural or office-friendly. What you want is something soft, sheer, and glowy, so that no one can put their finger on why you look so awake. You’ll get a similar effect with a pale shadow, but pencil lasts longer and goes anywhere.
Any other eye-openers out there? Who’s wearing white today?

Ugh, I skipped everything but lip balm today! But I definitely love white and light pink for eye-brighteners.
And I’m SO rocking my white skirt and blazer post-Labor Day, by the way. Screw those antiquated rules!
Good tip, Bets! I’ve been wondering what the heck to do with the white pencil I got in a 5-pack of Urban Decay’s 24/7 eyeliners. (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P133707&categoryId=C10461)
I’ll have to give it a try! Hope you had a good 3-day weekend!
So, I’m with Emma on this. I have the white pencils but didn’t know what to do with them. Exactly how are you applying them to the corner if I may ask? I’ve tried using it before, but came out looking like an evil ice queen. I think I missed the ‘how to properly apply makeup day in school.”
Sal – I need to pop over to http://www.allreadypretty.com to look for a pic of you in your white get-up!
Sam + Emma – This is so easy if you already have a proper pencil. Make sure the tip is dulled a bit, so you don’t stab yourself. After you’ve done the rest of your eye makeup, simply smudge the innermost corner of each eye with the pencil. You want to create a tiny > shape. Or just put a dot in the corner and smudge. Less is more! Don’t line your whole eye, whatever you do!
Pearly is definitely the way to go. I’ve been working my way through Benefit’s white eye liner for ages, and it’s so bright/chalky and it clumps in the most unattractive way. Thanks for the tip on this product, Bets! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a bargain version, too. : )
