September 8

This past holiday weekend I juggled my mile-long to-do list (laundry, walk the dog, write press release, inventory pop-up thrift store—coming soon!) with a hearty amount of fun-having (karaoke-laced birthday party, Twins game, State Fair), and to be frank, balancing the two left me feeling more than a little bit drained. By Sunday evening, I was a petered out hot mess, with tired limbs, a sore throat and spaghetti for brains. And I knew exactly what I needed to set me straight: A steaming hot bath. I decided to upgrade from my usual bargain soak (recipe below) and plopped a One Bath Fizzer into my claw-foot sanctuary. The powdery floral fragrance of the “Love is in the Bath” scent was sweet and jasmine-y, but even more delightful was the rich pink hue it imparted to my bath water. Hours after my soak, I could still catch a whiff of the fragrance lingering on my skin. Is there a more girly route to sanity than a pink rose-garden-scented bath? Me thinks no. If you’re not familiar with the One brand, keep your eyes out for its plastic-free packaged bath and body products at Target and Walgreens. These earth-friendly fizzers come two to a pack in four scents and cost only $5.99.

BEAUTY THRIFTER’S BARGAIN BATH SOAK

1 c. Epsom salts (Look for these in bulk at your local food co-op or buy the biggest container they sell at the drugstore to maximize the bargain-aspect.)

10 drops good-quality lavender essential oil (Veriditas makes my favorite.)

Dissolve salts in hot water and dot water surface with 10 or so drops of lavender essential oil. Sit back, and enjoy a muscle-relaxing, aroma-therapeutic bath for next to nothing.
