Although my favorite face from last night’s Emmy awards was Julia Louis-Dreyfus (that sheer panel in her dress? not so much.), the best makeup lesson award goes to Keri Russell. If you’ve ever wondered what to wear with a neon-bright dress or top, this is it: subtly smoky eyes, rosy cheeks, and a cool, peachy-nude matte lip. “Her warm skin tone and the coolness of the dress was the perfect combination for reflecting the same tones through her makeup,” says Tina Turnbow for NARS Cosmetics, who created Russell’s look. She used the same combo on Lea Michele (who was also one of the best-dressed, don’t you think?). The lipstick, NARS Pure Matte in Tashkent, isn’t in stores fall, but Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick in Marrakech should do the trick. I’ve donned at least a dozen nudes this summer, and the award goes to this creamy—not chalky—shade.
Whose look did you love/loathe from last night? Would someone please say something about January Jones’ dress.

If they were going to go so nude I would have liked to have seen a little more luminescence to the skin. I think Kari Russel looks kind of flat and un-dimensional here, natural does not have to be boring and matte can be combined with other textures to add impact.
I think Julia Louis Dreyfus looks like Julia Louis Dry Face. She look old and her make up could have used a little softening.
Good thing I am moving to LA, they clearly need me, stat!
In all fairness, hard to tell what they really looked like in person but they should photograph well none the less.
Lea Michelle was the best, she looked great because she young. They needed to adjust better for the more mature actresses, and yes, I mean Kari too, skin changes after your 20′s.
Morning! My pics… Heather Morris, Julie Bowen, Jane Krakowski, Kristen Wig. AND can I say Edie Falco looked amazing. Also am LOVING navy for evening.
Oh Edie, so true. But Julie is too emaciated and Jane was too orange – still loved their dresses though! And how could I forget Claire Danes?! http://www.instyle.com/instyle/celebrities/lookoftheday/photos/0,,20416629,00.html?xid=lotdwidget
You asked for it! LOL.
2010 Emmy’s Beauty Hall of Fame
Most Age Appropriate:
Jane Lynch pulled off a gorgeous purple dress with the right amount of light shadow highlighting in the inner corners of her eyes for an instant face lift.
Biggest double-take (who was that?):
Claire Danes aka ‘Angela Chase’ has gracefully matured. Her hydrated matte skin served her well to soften her over-smoked eyes.
Tina Fey. A pair of well-structured brows for her eye shape and emphasis on eyeliner at the outer corners of her eyes to lift them, gave Tina a ‘wow, that nerd is hot’ appeal.
Elisabeth Moss. This girl cleans up well. Her warmer lip color popped nicely against her cream dress.
Jayma Mays. Hot for teacher! A heavy and wide black eyeliner application gave her a more flattering almond shaped eye.
Best beauty overall:
Lea Michele. The neutral palette chosen for Lea’s eyes, lips and cheeks were a smart choice to complement her navy dress and caramel hair highlights. No single focus, but a well-thought out complete look, made her the Emmy Beauty Winner in my book!
January Jones’ dress looked like a fish! I didn’t like how open and stiff it was in the front and the back looked like she had an extra set of boobs!
i liked her dress! it’s like, omg i’m NOT betty draper!
Jules, such a smart + chic recap! Will have to get a lesson from you on Jayma’s eyeliner. I love how it translates in photos. Seriously coveting Lea’s coloring.
January Jones’ dress looks likelayers of bright blue Pringles..wierd
I loved Jane Lynch, Lea Michele and Sofia Vergara head-to-toe. I thought Tina Fey’s hair was good but didn’t love her dress choice. And I really wanted to like Claire Danes but her colors seemed off – hair was too yellowy for the blush dress or something…?
The nude lips were GORGEOUS. So simple and elegant.
What about Jimmy Fallon’s fake bake? He looked a little overdone but I still love him :)

LOVED January Jones’s dress. I am so tired of everyone wearing the same Grecian gown with a smoky eye and soft, off-to-the-side buns. Bo-ring.
