Ever since I worked for Kiehl’s, my husband has been a die-hard fan of the White Eagle Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream. Come to think of if, he’s used it for nearly a decade. (Ugh! this is how I know I’m aging). It’s that good at prepping the skin for shaving, preventing redness, razor burn, and those pesky red bumps, and leaving his face lightly moisturized. Which is why I was SHOCKED when he gave the new Aveda Men Pure-Formance Shave Cream a higher rating. The 99 percent naturally derived formula looks a lot like Kiehl’s—creamy, white lotion—but, according to Mr. Bets, is slightly thinner in consistency so it doesn’t clog his razor (or our sink). Unfortunately, he went through the 5 oz. tube of Aveda much more quickly then the 8 oz tub of Kiehl’s, which usually lasts him 6 months—and costs about the same. What’s a wife to do?
p.s. Greg says skip the Aveda Men Pure-Formance Dual Action Aftershave—it’s a bit too greasy. And what man under the age of 70 uses aftershave anyway?

I’ve been waiting for this release. Not sure what they changed other than packaging but I’m very glad to hear that it’s well received by your mister. My mister can’t “do” non-aerosol creams. He’s a bit resistant to change, despite my affinity for all things beauty.
Did you try it on your legs?
I did NOT try it on my legs – I never use anything but my Mach 3 razor!
Apparently I have some time on my hands this week! 2 posts!
The schtick on Aveda’s Men Shave Cream
Men’s Skin 101
Because men’s skin differs from women’s, it needs to be treated differently. Men usually have larger pores and produce more oil than women which can clog pores, leading to breakouts and blackheads.
The frequency of shaving can dramatically wear down the skin’s barrier function, leaving it more prone to irritation and dryness. The skin barrier keeps vital nutrients in and damaging elements and substances out. It also helps keep moisture in the skin.
Men experience moisture loss at a higher rate than for women, which can lead to dehydration and aging.
Men tend to treat their skin incorrectly by using improper moisturizers and over-exfoliating.
Aveda addresses the gender differences with a shave cream that provides the standard benefits of most shave creams; soothes, hydrates, and helps reduce razor burns and ingrown hairs. But it goes beyond their competitors by protecting the skin’s moisture barrier via seaweed extract, delays aging via anti-oxidants, and let’s face it, Aveda smells amazing!
A 5 oz. bottle should last 5 weeks.
Men should also consider using the Dual Action Aftershave that improves skin barrier strength, helps control excess oil, improves skin’s overall tone and texture, and delivers the much needed balanced hydration for men’s skin.
Aveda is the winner!?
Jules, you and your Aveda wisdom are always welcome!
