This is my hand on Day 12 of the new Shellac manicure.
That’s 12 days of washing my hair, weeding the garden, and tapping away on this keyboard. And yet, there’s nary a chip or scratch in sight. And my nails are still so shiny! I haven’t been this awestruck by a product since . . . . ever. Here I am going on and on about it on Twin Cities Live. In case you can’t turn up the volume at your desk, here’s what I’m saying:
You might of heard of Axxium gel manis. I’ve had one and it nearly destroyed my nails (first there was the filing and drilling, then there was the arduous removal process. Never again.). Shellac is completely different. It goes on like a lacquer, glides off after a soak in acetone, and comes in 12 beautiful shades by Creative Nail Design (CND). The secret is the UV3 technology that used to “cure” each layer of polish. You simply stick your hand under this little light for 10 seconds and nails come out completely dry and smooth.
If you’re in the Twin Cities, you’re in big luck: Rhonda Hansford at Jason Deavalon Salon (612-751-9928) is offering $10 off Shellac manis if you book by Monday. That’s $40 for a manicure that will last you 2 whole weeks. But I must warn you: Once you try Shellac you’ll never go back.

I tried shellac and was completely blown away by how well it held up for 14 days. Not a chip to be found, and like you said, a totally shiny mirror finish that lasted until I removed it. For me the true test was the condition it left my nails afterwards. It took 5-10 minues of “soaking” in acetone. I used cotton pads wrapped around each nail to keep the remover on my nails, not my hands. Then I had to genly scrape away some gummy residue it left behind… but my nails were completely strong and healthy underneath. I LOVE shellac!! Totally worth the price, and I hear it lasts 4 weeks as a pedicure!
Forget my review – read Aimee’s! It’s nice to know that I’ll be able to remove the polish by myself, should I not want to replace it with another mani every time!
love this. must try soon!
I will be waiting to hear if it lasts longer – bet it will!
Loved the spot on Twin Cities Live!
Aw thanks, C!
Can you get this at any other Twin Cities salons or is it only at Jason Deavalon?
@Lindsay – Yes! I can’t personally vouch for their services, but I know that LifeSpa in Lakeville and the Petite Spa in St. Paul offer Shellac as well.
Thanks! I think I’m just going to go with your recommendation and give Rhonda a try! This will be great for summer…5 Saturdays in a row of weddings coming up.
I got my Shellac manicure from Rhonda at Jason Deavalon salon today. Got the palest sheer pink on my short nails-love it!
Plus, Rhonda was a doll.
I am really happy with how shiny and pretty my nails look.
Thanks for the idea!
Lucia
@Lucia – that’s what I like to hear! And I know that color – it’s the perfect pinky nude. Jealous!
what color do you have on your nails in this picture? I am on day 18 of my shellac mani in Romantique, I LOVE it and am obsessed!
@Libby – It’s Wildfire. There are only 12 shades in the shellac line, so whatever is the most classic red. Romantique is AWESOME – and oh so fashion-forward of you!
I love your color! I am hoping to get a new shellac mani within 2 weeks and might get that color. I wish there was a deep dark blood red color though..I cant wait to see what colors are coming out next month. Any clue of any colors?
Fedora is a vampy brown and Red Baroness is a deep ruby – check those two out! I’m going with a nude tomorrow at my appt! I’ll ask about the new colors when I’m there!
oo yay, let us know!
Hi ladies! I have a few of the new colors of shellac that just came out this past week! Plus all of the old ones… Come see me for your shellac manicure at The Beauty Room, 612 724 4111. Mention you saw his here and you’ll receive $5off your first service!
Gel polish is a wonderful thing!! I love it, it allows me to wear it while working and showcase new colors! I can’t get enough!
