On a recent trip to the Bobbi Brown counter with my friend K-dog (that’s Kirsten to the rest of you), I realized I’ve been withholding the best eye brightening trick in the book! Today, when I’m hungover from sugar and lack of sleep, it’s going to save me from looking like a freak show. But for Kirsten, it was the first step that Bobbi recommended for her wedding makeup, and it’s so easy! The secret weapon: Bobbi Brown Color Corrector.
I don’t know HOW I ever survived without the stuff. It’s designed specifically to erase discoloration such as redness or dark circles—for which I rely on Light Bisque. After you’ve applied eye cream (Origins Ginzing is the BOMB), simply dot the Color Corrector on dark undereye areas only, using a concealer brush. Blend with fingers. A little goes a long way. Next, top with your favorite concealer to brighten. I use Bobbi’s Creamy Concealer in Warm Ivory because the shades are amazing and the formula is so creamy it doesn’t dry up or get cakey halfway through the day. The two-layer approach is SO much more effective than concealer alone, and you’ll find you need far less foundation when you look so fresh and awake! Observe: Kirsten before corrector and concealer:

Amazing right? And she’s wearing so little makeup. Not to mention that she’s gorgeous!

Hello lovelies! I'm Elizabeth Dehn, a beauty writer + lifestyle editor who's equally fanatical about lip gloss as juice cleansing. I live in Minneapolis with Mr. Bets and our white lab, Molly Thomas . . .

You say so little make up, to me, felt like SO much make up… but thanks for introducing me to my new best friend, “magic in a pot”. This corrector works wonders – and has made me start wearing more makeup overall, and feel better about being “make up face” as my fiance so lovingly called me when I got home after this fun little endeavor! Thank you :)
As a make up artist I absolutely stand by this product and use it with every application no matter how made up or natural the look.
Women try to compensate for the under eye depth with shadow, liner, foundation, bronzer, more eye liner, too much blush, dark lipstick, etc…..
Once you get this area corrected, you can then see where you need to even out your skin with out wearing too much in places you just don’t need it.
It can be heavy if not applied right or if the skin under the eye is not prepped correctly. Eye cream is a must under this product, if you are a little more dry or liney under the eye or in the corners, use BECCA Cosemtics Line and Pour corrector under the eye for a smooth long wearing primer/base.
The Bobbi Brown Eye Brightener is another great alternative to this product, it is like concealer light. I use this with a little BB stick foundation tapped over it for a more natural look. The Eye Brightener is pretty much the same as the creamy corrector in results it is just more of a tinted moisturizer for under the eye.
But yes, everyone should have both a Full Crrector and a Eye Brightener in their make up bag and should learn how to apply it right. This changes so much in the daily routine and the amount of make up needed to achieve the end result.
So true about the loading on extra makeup, Suzy! Thanks for introducing me to the Corrector, and for chiming in with your expert opinion!!
If I recall correctly, back in the day I got a good laugh out of you when you saw me with my corrector warming up under my eyes. Remember, remember? I’m still on this Bobbi train and certainly won’t leave now that I know Bets uses it too.
I’ll have to check out this here corrector. Because they are discontinuing my go-to product this year in the U.S. *Sob*
Ooh, this stuff looks good! Is it creamy? Been looking for a better under-eye solution. Elizabeth, since we’re talking eyes here, do you have any suggestions for a good eyeshadow primer that decreases creasing and makes the stuff stick on in summer?
Also…Hi Kirsten, and thanks again for that pdf awhile ago, and congrats on your upcoming wedding!
@Rebecca – It’s SUPER creamy. That’s part of the amazingness! (which is not even a word).
For eye primers I love MAC paints in Canvas – lasts forever and easy to apply. I’ve also heard good things about urban decay’s primer.
Ms. Dehn, I have to agree that this is one of my faves too! I use it a lot for photo shoots. It’s the perfect consistency and has great coverage….doesn’t settle into lines (that none of us have eh-hem)
@Rebecca- I have recently discovered the most AMAZING eyeshadow primer. Its new by NARS. My eyelids are the oiliest probably on the face of the earth. This stuff kept my shadow in tact with NO creasing, smearing, nothing… mind you, it was also 90 degrees and 100% humidity. That is saying something.
@Rebecca @BeautyBets
Oooh, eyeshadow primer is one of my favorite topics. I personally like the Beijing shadestick from MAC, the canvas paint if I have more time. The NARS one is great because it has an SPF in it, but that didn’t work quite as well for me as the MAC products do. I’ve heard good stuff about Urban Decay’s primer too but haven’t used it myself (yet).
Katie, Elizabeth, AND Sandra…thanks for all the great suggestions, ladies! I’ll definitely have to try one (or all!) of these.
was really inspired to try the corrector and the concealer after reading your post about it, along with suzy’s post. went to southdale ready to buy whatever i needed. i told the salesperson i wanted to use it without looking like i got out of a tanning booth wearing glasses.
she looked at me and said ‘that’s the bobbi brown look. if you don’t want to look like that you might want to try another line’. i told her i’ve actually seen people walking around who use these products and don’t look like that. she told me when i had time to come back. come back? i was there ready to buy buy buy. i said her eye makeup looked natural and was she using the product? ‘no, i don’t need it…’
still interested in trying it…
@Daune How RUDE! That salesperson needs a new job. For starters, you won’t look like you came out of the tanning booth if you get the concealer shade right. The corrector doesn’t brighten so much as neutralizes darkness. It can be tailored to your skin tone – something she clearly wasn’t willing to take the time to show you. I’m so sorry you had such a bad experience. Bobbi would be appalled! I’m going to check with Suzy on an artist recommendation.
thanks elizabeth! meeting up with suzy at neimans!
Lovely !!
