Raise your hand if you’re hyperventilating. Because I can remember a time when the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick caused a total FRENZY. After the first (limited) edition sold out, people went bananas on eBay, bidding mad amounts of money to score one. Back then, applying shimmer subtly and strategically was a fairly new concept. Now shimmer products are everywhere—and often unfortunately used to great glittery effect. But no matter how many powdered versions I try, I always come back to the Brick. It’s subtle enough to be believable, but powerful enough to actually DO something. Whenever I dust it on my cheekbones and bridge of my nose, my face lights up and looks instantly healthier. In the summer I use the Pink Quartz shade to get what I call “the lazy girl’s glow.” The combination of pale pink and sheer bronze allows me to skip pretty much everything else but a little under-eye concealer. I don’t look AH-mazing, but I do look younger and thinner in about three seconds—show me another product that can do that. Better yet: Tell me about your favorite glow-getter and you could win mine!
UPDATE: Congrats to Kirsten A., the very lucky winner of the Shimmer Brick. Apparently I need to giveaway more glowy things!

I still love Benefit’s High Beam product. I like that I can use it any time during the year (tan or pale).
The shimmer brick is an absolute staple in my cosmetic bag! Love dusting it on my cheekbones and using it for eyeshadow. I was part of the frenzy back when and still can’t get enough of it!
I’ve used MAC Mineralized Skinfinishes as a highlighter in the past and they are very pretty, but I find that they’re often too shimmery, not “glowy”. I’m still searching for the product that gives me that healthy glow.
I probably have to go with red wine and good company…never fails.
I’ve always been curious about the shimmer bricks, but was hesitant to try them because of the whole glitter thing. Sounds like I should trust Bobbi to do it right…
Ditto to Aileen’s comment about too much glitter, but I would love a chance to try this. My stand by thus far has been the softer shades of Mac frost finish eye shadow.
I don’t have a good glow-getter! All I’ve had and have been using is a pretty champagney Paladia eyeshadow. I dust it on my cheekbones, brow bones, bridge of my nose, and cupid’s bow and it looks nice, but I bet a product made for it would look better!
Okay, so here’s the thing: The brick is pretty shimmery, but not glittery. The most NATURAL glow is going to come from a liquid illuminator because it melts into the skin – in which case I recommend MAC Strobe Cream. Or, a glass of bubbly with Aileen!
@Angie + @Kate – I think eyeshadow is a smashing stand-in! Love products that can do double-duty. I used Stila Kitten eyeshadow on my cheekbones for many years.
Ooh! I would love to add this to my arsenal!
I know its not makeup “per se,” but my best glow getter is Philosophy the miracle face wash and hope in a jar products when used together. My face is smooth and naturally shiny and glowing!! I am in love with these recently purchased items, and if your skin glows naturally, what more do you need?
Even tho it’s an eye shadow, I use MAC “all that glitters” as a highlight & Bare Minerals warmth under it. Against my skin tone, it makes me look radiant. I would be extremely happy to try the real deal though!
Oooh…I love the shimmer — especially because I don’t tan (skin cancer survivor.) So I’m always looking for something to add a little color and glow in the summer. I like Benefit’s High Beam on my cheek bones. However, I’m also a fan of Aileen’s suggestion of good wine and company!
I use Philosophy’s similar glimmer!
I have an old Sonja Kashuk shimmer stick that is literally falling apart. But I still smudge some on my cheek and brow bones for some glow, especially in the summer. Love it, but could use an update!
Sometimes I like to use eyeshadow, and I recently tried Luminosity Shimmer Stick, but I didn’t love it.
The Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick is the only bronzer that I have found that does not leave that orange hue on my pale skin. BONUS: I also use the different shades for eyeshadow, but NOT all at once!
Nars Mutli Purpose Stick in Orgasm. A nice splash of color and shimmer!
I don’t currently use a shimmery/glow/bronzer type product. I’m not exactly sophisticated with makeup and anytime I’ve bought something similar I tend pick a cheap item and it usually sucks. A fancy fabulous product would really make my day, maybe you’ll see me on the street and notice how wonderful I look.
I use smashbox’s hybrid illuminator it’s a primer and illuminator in one
i wish i could say i have a favorite shimmer product…my beauty bag is lacking. perfect opportunity to fill it up!
Illuminators are a must-have for me. My favorites: CoverGirl’s TruBlend Mineral Blush in Shimmering Sands (low) and MAC’s Mineralize Skin Finish in Light Flush (high). My cheeks don’t go a day without either (or both!).
My favorite glow- getter…. uh, might be too dirty to post here – but I bet if I had this shimmering brick in my new found makeup kit, I’d be glowing all the time
Stop in sometime, I’d would love to have you compare it to the Fleur’s Golden Powder. This puff is magical!

I have the poor girl’s version of the shimmer brick from Target–I can’t believe I can’t think of the brand name right now….it starts with a “P,” I think. It’s actually too sparkly for my face but it works as an eye-shadow.
I like Benefit’s Miss Popularity, but I would love to try out the Bobbi brick!!
It’s Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strip– I’m sure it’s nothing like Bobbi Brown’s!
I love the Bare Minerals Touch of Sun. I am very pale, so this adds just a little bronze and shimmer.
I have yet to find a favorite shimmer, so I’m hoping to score Bobbi Brown’s. My skin is on the darker side (NC42) so it’s a challenge to find something *just right*. Thanks for the giveaway!
Hey, Bets
Is there such a thing as being “too old to shine”
I use Mary Kay’s Eyesicles in vanilla; it’s meant as a cream eye shadow, but a tiny dab on the apples of my cheeks gives a perfect glow!
I’m a big fan of Benefit’s 10, which is an awesome highlighting and bronzer combined.
I do use the Two Faced Caribbean in a compact…love that stuff. Shimmery, not glittery…but that’s different from this brick. Goodness wouldn’t it be a treat to try this fabulous item!
i love the Bobbi Brown bronzer – the non-shimmery one – for day time, but this one would be fantastic for a night out!
I don’t have anything like that right now, but to look YOUNGER & THINNER, I’m your girl!
If I use 2 bricks will I look HALF ,my age and HALF my weight??? I also use the bronzer beads by Chanel – love Bobbi
I am missing a go to shimmer product. Right now I just abuse my lightest eyeshadow.
I guess you could say I’m more of a natural girl. But now I’m thinking I just need to be taught a lesson or two! After hearing your description…I think I need this!! Intriguing giveaway…thanks!
I got this great little set of shimmer beads from BE last year – I forget their name, but they come in a great pink container and I use it for a little shimmer and a little color
Splurge highlighter: Nars Multiple in Copacabana
Inexpensive bronzer: Physicians Formula Magic Mosaic Multicolored custom pressed powder
I love these both!
mine would def have to be Benifit’s Dallas. love it! or once in a while Benifit’s Coralista. both are actually amazing together! never tried any bobbi brown’s makeup though
Hi Elizabeth,
Love your segments on TCL with the other “Liz”. Where or where can I find that $6 L’Oreal blush??
Thx,
MM
i’m currently glow-getter-less – but i’d love to win this and become part of the majority of beautiful glowy people!!!
Thanks MM! The L’oreal HIP cream blush in Coquette was a limited edition, but you can still find it on ebay – and for cheap. Here are a few for sale: http://tinyurl.com/2d7byz8
Almay’s face brightener under the eyes – it really does make a world of difference! I put it on after I’ve patted on concealer and I look so fresh and awake!
I love Perscriptives Magic powder…it has a subtle shimmer that isn’t tacky or “clubby”!
