There are few things I covet: more days in the week, a self-weeding garden, two bathroom sinks, and Jennifer Connelly’s eyebrows. I used to have something similar, until I mercilessly plucked them in college when thin brows were having a very brief moment. BIG mistake. I’ve been growing them back ever since, with a little help from Revitalash (yep, you can use it on lashes and brows). I *think* it’s actually working. Now comes the painful part: I’ve been following brow expert Leah Simon-Clarke’s advice and not tweezing a single wayward hair—you never when one might lead to 10 and suddenly you have your brows back. Keeping my mitts off my Tweezerman is like separating a cow from her baby calf BUT twill be worth it. On Friday I’m getting them threaded for the first time. I do hope there’s something to thread. Has anyone else tried this? And more important: Is anyone else struggling with their brows? Do tell.

I was just plucking a few stray hairs this morning, thinking of how much I HATED it. My mom plucked her eyebrows thin back in the 60′s when it was hip, and told me as a young girl to NEVER do that. I listened, but I struggle with the upkeep! When I was in AZ recently I was at a mall where a lady had a kiosk and was threading people’s eyebrows. I was so interested but have never done it. Where are you going to do it? I would love to hear about an alternative to plucking and waxing!
I have eyebrows like hers! Thick and all. I like threading because it’s quicker and, to me, it doesn’t hurt as badly. I know after I wax, my brow area is red for a bit. It’s not like that when I thread. Good luck!
I have light blonde brows and threading is perfect for getting the random baby hairs above my brow line. Wax is used under my brow line to get a good arch. I rarely have redness after I get them done. I go to Christina Snead at Blink for Beauty. She is AMAZING!! I’ve been to Leah @ Extrados in the past and wasn’t too impressed (she seemed to be too much in a hurry). Anyone who wants perfect brows in Minneapolis must go to Christina!
Yes! I’m going to see Christina at Blink in Mpls! I’ve heard only amazing things. Here’s her website: http://blinkforbeauty.com/
Elle – so jeal of your big brows! I get red from waxing too, so hoping the buck stops with threading!
Sigh. I don’t like to admit this, but I may have tried the brow threading place in the Mall of America. It was cheap ($12), fast, and the results were surprisingly good. My face wasn’t super red, so I could continue shopping without being self conscious (a definite plus). But I have to admit, having mall-goers walk by and stop to watch me get hair pulled from my face was definitely a tiny bit uncomfortable.
I loved the results of threading, but the lack of privacy and weird atmosphere has prevented me from returning. I didn’t realize that there were salons who did threading, but I will try one of those next time.
Oh! Those brows are gorgeous…
Christina rocks! Although I need to get my done desperately!!
So nice to meet you the other night!!
@Nicole – You have nerve, girlie! I can’t even stop at a kiosk that’s selling lotion, let alone for hair removal! Hilar.
This is perfect timing! I usually go to extrados to get mine tweezed b/c I am allergic to wax. I have always thought of threading, but have never known where to go. Booked my appointment for tomorrow – so excited! Thanx!
Stacy! You must report back! I hadn’t even thought of wax allergies – this is such a find!
I tweezed my ashy blonde brows so thin for years I am afraid they will never grow back. It’s so embarrassing now!
I had my eyebrows threaded once… never again! I hate to say it the day before you get yours done, but it HURT. And it kept hurting, unlike waxing where it only hurts once for a second. My skin definitely gets red from the waxing, but the lack of pain makes it worth it to me. Good luck! I hope it goes well!
I know it’s been said, but Christina @ blink is ah MAY zing. I’ve been a client for over 7 years & wouldn’t think of letting anyone else touch my brows. Consider rescheduling your appt @ Extrados and run, don’t walk to blink.
I have never touched my eyebrows, having grown up with my mother standing in my bathroom doorway insisting “Put those tweezers down! If you want to mess with your eyebrows, have them done professionally!” So aside from plucking an errant hair that grew astray from the rest of the pack, I’ve remained an eyebrow purist, if you will. No threading, waxing, shaping….nothing.
And what now? My eyebrows are thinning! Thinning!!! I have no idea what this is about! I started using a similar RapidLash product in hopes of reversing this damage, but I’m a bit concerned I’ll end up looking like Groucho Marx. Time will tell…
Seriously so excited for Blink – thanks for the all recos, ladies.
@Laura and @Molly – any lash growth serum like Revitalash is going to help grown them back! No worries about them coming back bushy – it’s MUCH more subtle than that.
threading is the best. i started doing it about 4 years ago when the woman at anastasia’s in sephora gave me two different eyebrows. it is a little more uncomfortable than waxing b/c like someone said it takes longer, but the shape is amazing. i’m lucky enough to have an authentic indian salon in my neighborhood and for $6 these women will give you a not too thin, but well shaped eyebrow.
@Sarah – Oh to live in NYC! This is exactly what my neighborhood needs – plus $10 manis and $20 facials. I’m coming to visit! (also: kind of rolling over the anastasia story. good lord.)
I had the most amaaazing visit at Blink yesterday! Christina was so nice; she took time to explain the process of threading to me and finding out what I wanted in the end. First off, threading is quick and virtually pain free! I do get electrolysis done, so my tolerance to pain has increased, but I was really impressed! Oh, and the best part – little to no redness. I also found a new organic skin care line that I am intrigued by – I am such a sucker! I am addicted and will definately be back! Thanks Elizabeth!
