Beauty gimmicks abound (though I have it on good authority that Bumpits isn’t one of them). The more products I try, the more suspect I become. But then something does exactly what it promises, instantly restoring my faith in beautydom. HerCut is one of those. This line of styling aids, or “catalysts,” utilizes haircut-specific polymers to deliver the specific styling benefits each cut needs to look like you just stepped out of the salon. This would sound like hogwash to me if it weren’t for my life-changing experience with Living Proof, another scientist-designed haircare line. There’s a HerCut for each of the five basic cuts: bob, long layers, shag, pixy, and blunt. I tried the Long Layers, which is supposed to create movement and flow so that hair doesn’t just hang there. I rubbed a quarter-size amount of HerCut throughout my towel-dried hair, avoiding the roots. The formula is surprisingly lightweight, not greasy or sticky. I skipped my usual heat styling protectant but not my volumizer, then blow-dried as usual.
It was the best blow-out I’ve ever given myself.
I never fully understood what “manageable” meant until I used this product. My hair just slipped through the brush, dried quickly, and came out smooth, bouncy and shiny. The layers seemed to separate in all the right places so it looked like I had an actual STYLE. I’m now hoarding my HerCut for special occasions, something I haven’t done since my last jar of Creme De La Mer—and this is so much better than that.

As if I needed another reason to drop dough at Sephora. Sounds like a fantastic product, well worth checking out. One bottle = less than a blow-out anyway, right?? See, the justification is already beginning. Darn you, Bets!
Can’t wait to try this.
Oooh… I am intrigued!! I have samples of all 5 (from Sephora, natch). I think mine is closest to the Shag… but am desperately trying to get back to “long layers” :)
Thanks for reviewing this one!
Emma, you with the sephora samples! Must try and tell us what you think, Ms. Shagalicious.
I’m going to take your word on this and try it, only because we have the same taste in cupcakes!
Jules, you will not be sorry! If you don’t love, cupcakes are on me!
I thought the point of this product was that you didn’t have to use other products with it. Yet your article says you had to use a volumizer as well. Sounds like a gimmick to me. There’s no such thing as molecules that are made specifically for one hairstyle or another. I mean come on. Really?
All I know is that when I use this, my hair looks like I’ve just gotten it professionally blown out. I don’t ask why – I just go with it!
