Get Moisturized, Give Back with Galen Labs

There’s nothing like an oil spill to make one feeling utterly helpless and USELESS. I can hardly think about this catastrophe without clamming up like sea life. I’m still recovering from Valdez, for pete’s sake!  Per usual, we’ve been bombarded with promotions in which proceeds benefit clean-up efforts. I can’t criticize anyone’s creativity or generosity, but some of them feel a bit like a publicity stunt. This isn’t one of them.

My friends at Galen Labs in Minneapolis have been dedicated to the environment since launching their skincare line last year. The products are free of chemicals, preservatives, artificial perfumes, synthetic coloring, and yes—cosmetic petroleum. This month, Galen will donate $5 from every sale of its Shea Cream ($32) to the Greater New Orleans Foundation, who will in turn distribute the funds to the fishing community and its families, wildlife aid, and habitat clean up.

You haven’t given back to your skin until you’ve slathered on this unrefined shea butter. It eliminates my eczema in the winter, soothes sunburn in the summer, diminishes stretch marks, alleviates skin allergies, heals minor wounds, and has been used on burn victims at the Mayo Clinic. Bonus: Pure shea won’t clog pores, and trust me—I’ve tested this theory. To purchase, visit Galenlabs.com.
