I’ve had a series of near-miss bad hair days this week. First there was the new “moisturizing” shampoo that left my locks limp and greasy. (This is when testing products is not so glamorous.) Then there was the morning I overslept and chose to catch up on Sandy and Co. instead of bathing. Two potential crisis, averted by my latest Target impulse purchase: Tresemmé Fresh Start Waterless Foam Shampoo. It’s new, it’s $3.99. I had v. low expectations, namely because it’s $3.99, but also because I seem to be the only person on the planet who hasn’t been bowled over by dry shampoo. No matter what I try (apparently not this one), my hair still looks and feels like it needs to be washed. Freshstart is different. It’s a mousse, not a spray or a powder. You pump a glob out into your hand, then run it through your hair, focusing at the roots. It feels wet momentarily, then poof—dry, fresh hair. No stickiness, no residue, just clean-looking hair. And the volume! This I was not expecting—and you know how hard it is to come by. For an added boost, I blasted my roots with a blow-drier. Oo la la.

Nice find, Elizabeth! I’ll have to give it a try.
I have used Ojon’s spray in the past (dislike – but nice for getting hair dirty for updos, so not a total waste) but LOVE the Oscar Blandi powder. It’s like a miracle – and my hair gets oily pretty quick. Just put it on BEFORE your shirt, so you don’t get powder on it.
I know the Blandi is popular, but the powder is messier than the mousse. Maybe I’m being too picky?!
Yeah, another lazy summer day hair solution…Thanks for finding and trying out this new helper!
All this is good to know, but does your hair SMELL clean, too?
I’m wondering if I should try this for my twin 5 year-old girls vs. spray detanglers…Will it help with detangling?
Awe.some. Dually noted!
Barb, it’s lightly scented, which seems to just leave your hair smelling normal – not perfumy. Of course, it probably wouldn’t get rid of camp fire smell!
Justine, I wouldn’t! It would prob make their hair MORE tangled, since it’s got some stick to it.
Hi Elizabeth! Just “found” your blog and I love it! I have been a fan of lollipop26 (a beauty blogger who blogs on youtube) but to find out you live in Mpls, I’m switching my allegiance.
I have been a fan of dry shampoo since Pssssst. I had a bad run-in with the “colored” dry shampoo from Bumble and Bumble (?). I looked like a chimney sweep.
I will give this a try.
Again, so happy to have found you!
Lucia
Lucia, you are making my day! Please let me know if there are any topics or pressing beauty questions you have so I can make sure to maintain your allegiance! :) Also: That Bumble & Bumble is a DISASTER. I tried the black version and then slept on my white pillow case. No no no.
This sounds great, I think I will totally try it out. I just started reading your blog last week and love it!
Do let me know what you think, Hayley. So glad you found BB!
Here is a link to a bogo coupon for the tresemme products.

$3.99? What a dream, and to think, I’ve been making do ( no pun intended) with baby powder in lieu of expensive dry shampoos! Elizabeth, your blog looks awesome! I was feeling nostalgic as I checked out the MnMo twitter feed, and was excited to find your blog link. Already got the Boots mascara and this shampoo on my Target list…
Bumble and Bumble dry shampoo can hardly be called a “shampoo.” When I tried it, I end up with brown encrusted fingernails from touching my hair. Hot!
I want to try this! So excited.
Hi Elizabeth:
Since you graciously asked, here are topics I would be very interested in:
-Drugstore moisturizers- the best
-foundation-sheer-mid coverage/which look really natural in broad daylight?
-Best nude/pink gloss and lipstick (always searching)
-Best neutral everyday bronzy eyeshadow (same)
I’ll stop now. I’m on a roll…
Thanks!
Lucia
I am not a fan of dry shampoo. Seems like something someone made up to make a few bucks. I have a hard time imagining that my hair can appear clean if I haven’t taken a shower and lathered up with real shampoo. But, I do know that there are a lot of people who love ‘dry’ shampoo and there’s clearly a following, of which I am not yet a part. Knowing that there is a $3.99 opportunity to give this a try and have good results – I think I am going to have to take the plunge! Thanks for finding this for us all!
As tempting as it is to swap one’s regularly scheduled bathing for more reading or sleep, resist! Such momentary acts of laxity are the freelancer’s express route to ruin. Take it from one who has been there (and, in all honesty, may be in rather desperate need of that dry shampoo right now).
Sounds great for Saturday mornings.
At that price how could I not give it a try!
OMG, Elizabeth – I think *you* may have been the one to lend me a B&B dry shampoo sample (during my internship). What a hot.damn.mess
I think the ultimate low point was when I had my sunglasses in my hair with the product, then wore them, then had awesome (not awesome) black racoon rings around my face!!!
(so am REALLY glad to have the blandi powder, and now a REALLY budget friendly alternative!!) super super thankyou much!! :)
Emma, seriously. Someone needs to put that Bumble + Bumble down for good! You were such a sport!
FYI: Target had/has this shrink-wrapped with 4-oz. Refreshing Mist
on an endcap at St. Louis Park. (Just sayin’). I bought it and used it yesterday-really really like it!
I would never have found/used it without the mention here.
Thanks Elizabeth!
Lucia, that’s the one I bought! So glad you like. Happy Mother’s Day!
Tried it out this morning and I wasn’t sure what I was doing. I ended up being happy with it because I was able to restyle my hair a little. I woke up with a kink on the back of my hair and it looked so much better after I used the foam!
Awesome!
