If you’re a fan of 30 Rock then you’re more accustomed to seeing Elizabeth Banks playing a news anchor with big hair and pastel makeup. But last night at the Met’s Costume Institute Gala she nailed the whole modern ’60s thing in a way that’s enough to make me want go blonde. The feathered Gucci dress and tight body don’t hurt either, but let’s talk about the one thing we can all have: those killer cat eyes. Now before you go and shut down at the thought of liquid eyeliner, please note that there was none involved. In fact, all it took was little NARS Pandora Duo Eyeshadow. You can re-create the look by using an angled brush to line eyes with the black power. When you reach the outer corner, build it out slightly into a triangle. Then, dab the inner corners of eyes with the white powder for a brightening effect. Voilà—you’re channeling Brigette Bardot. I should add that Bank’s glowing peach cheeks are courtesy of NARS Amour Blush, a fantastic alternative to bronzer, especially for you fair-skinned lasses. And the pale nude lips? NARS Bettina Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, which you may recall from yesterday’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide!

A fun trick I learned when having my makeup done is this… Take your angled brush and use the extra blob of mascara that is always on the end of the wand to line your lids. Amazing!!!
Betsy,
Last night the local tv news published a study done by dermatologists about the types of germs found in the make-up you use every day and that is just ‘in your purse.’ It was very interesting. I thought you might find it interesting, too. It should be on the Houston news, Channel 13 Monday night, and I think that is abc.
I guess I found it especially interesting as I watch lots of girls in middle school ‘share’ all kinds of make-up. It does make me want to throw away all my old ‘stuff’ and is a great reason to shop for new!
Marylyn
Marylyn, It’s so funny you should say that because I’m working on “spring clean your makeup” TV segment. Between the bottom of your purse and the stuff that gets tossed around inside, the germs totally add up. They also die fairly quickly, but I’m a stickler for not sharing mostly because the last thing I want is to get sick! As for tossing the makeup you have, if it smells, looks, or works differently than when you bought it, it’s got to go!
