I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve never covered the topic of hair accessories here at BB. Probably because, I look like a 12-year-old when I wear them. I’m not boho enough to tie a scarf around my head, or chic enough for a flappery feathered band ala Blair Waldorf. What I can do, however, is throw on one of these perfectly casual, infinitely fun kerchiefs from Live Savvy. They save me in spin class, when I’m dripping with sweat. They cover up all manner of hair sins when dry shampoo just isn’t cutting it. And they sometimes inspire me to do yard work, because at least I’ll look cute doing it. Apparently, I’m not alone in this devotion: InStyle just included these dandy bands in its current issue. I’d get one now, before they seriously blow up and every girl in town is wearing one. Which would be fine by me: Live Savvy is the brain (hair?) child of my straight-talking, super-stylish, unabashedly creative friend Shayla Boger. She has always had a major thing for headbands, and recently started making her own with the help of Project Regina, a sewing school in Minneapolis for refugees and immigrants. You can get yours here (I’m especially fond of the Liberty print), or you can leave a comment below with your favorite bad hair day fix and be entered into this fabulous Friday freebie!
Update: Congrats to Lindsay, Lis Ann, and Guenevera, the winners of this giveaway!

My hair is pretty short so whenever I can’t manage to tame my hair I end up rocking some pretty cute bedhead. Wake up, pomade and voila!
Those are SO cute. I saw you on TCL and totally want one before I head up to the BWCA! Keeps the hair back AND keeps the UV rays off your scalp and hair!
My bad hair day fix consists of simply creating a bouffant and securing it with a fancy clip, then putting my hair in a high, messy half ponytail. Not too bad! ;)
These headbands are so cute BTW!!
I have one headband with lots of feathers and embellishments, so on bad hair days I strategically place it to make sure all my hair is behind the headband, and no one ever notices the wonky, wavy, frizzy hair pieces!
A high pony is my go-to bad hair day fix. With a piece of hair wrapped around the band to make it look like I tried…at least a little.
I braid my long bangs back into a ponytail. People always compliment my hair when I do this – I don’t like telling them I’m doing it because my hair wasn’t behaving…
I twist or braid my bangs off to one side and re-flatiron any bedhead. People compliment me on this too and I don’t have the heart to tell them I did it because I was too lazy to wash my hair!
I recently lopped off about 10 inches of hair, so hiding it on a dirty day became a lot easier. I usually go for a quick rubbing of dry shampoo (I love the Oscar Blandi powder) and pinning my bangs back (they’re usually the dirtiest). But I also LOVE headbands – the skinny ones – for every day. I have a few that are sparkly and brightly colored, and a few with Blair style bows. and I love them. :)
I LOVE this headband! Mostly I am on an eternal quest of finding one that will simply not cut off the circulation in my head as the hard piece meant to hold it on, digs behind my ears. These look awesome, comfortable, and like they will work with my hair!. CUTE, CUTE and I can’t wait to try them!
I have to say that when I am having a bad hair day (frizzy rain hair), I just pull it up in a pony. I have semi thin hair, so a headband has never worked; they always make me look like I’m 12 as well. Although, you do have me intrigued by these pretty hair accessories!
Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo- the best and makes your hair look freshly washed.
On mornings when my hair just isn’t doing it for me, I put it up in a high looped ponytail and put on big earrings. Once the hair settles into place, it’s a funky, “Oh, I totally meant this” look!
I love wearing braids. Even though I’m 33 I still don’t feel too old to wear braids and keep up the trend Laura Ingalls Wilder set for us!!! They work for wet hair, greasy hair :), and nicely washed/blow dried hair….which hardly ever happens for me….The latter two are why braids work for me!
A well placed spray bottle with water by the sink. Spritz spritz Do I now have the look that I just came from working out at the gym? I tell everyone I just decided to go a little au naturel with my hair style that day. They seem to like it … ;D
Headbands are classic. A great way to accessorize a look with a little fun splash of color. Sort of like adding a smile to the top of your head. ;D
I have a lot of bad hair days and I have short hair, so I usually just have to go with the flow! My hair has a mind of its own so I just try to do my best. I usually will pin back my bangs, and try to run my straightener through it and hope I look okay… I am a daycare provider so my kids arent to judgemental :)
Bandanna – I have some of the ones that are made to be hair accessories and several handkerchiefs. I sometimes wear hair bands or headbands but they don’t actually hide my hair. I like these as a alternative to headbands.
I always have to have my hair long enough to pull back in a pony tail. This looks so much more updated!
I do a low pony tail at the nape of my neck or 3 bobby pins on the crown of my head, taming the cowlick and keeping any hair out of my eyes.
Well I am having bad hair months right now. I am 4 weeks over due for my highlights to be redone, 9 weeks pregnant, so not able to get my color done for another 4 weeks! Unfort my hair is too short to throw in a ponytail, so at this point if I am going out in public I have to wash my hair everyday (although I am going to pick up some of the dry shampoo you recommended and try that). Though going by the rate at which my hair is growing these days, I might be able to pull off the ponytail soon =)
I have short, thick hair so rarely have a really bad hair day. When I do, I just use the straightening iron a little bit, swoop my bangs with a bobbi pin and away I go. I’m hoping these headbands would look great on short hair!!
i am in love with ojon dry cleanser – it smells great and helps me not have to wash my hair everyday…especially lazy mornings!
Because I’m a very low maintenance person when it comes to styling my hair (or really any other beauty regimen, for that matter) whenever I have a worse than normal bad hair, I spray it down with water and try to start again. Unfortunately, that only works about every one out of one hundred times, and I’m typically in too much of a rush to use the hair dryer. So, I do my best to pull off the slicked back ponytail.
i instantly feel pulled together with a low ponytail.
I have thin fine hair. I’ve learned that when I have a bad hair day that I can put on real hair extentions, and what a quick fix!! A hat is always good too, as long as it is a fashionable hat.
On a bad hair day, I simply waltz to a friend’s chair, sit down and say “make me pretty!” Ah, beauty school.
Most bad hair days Jonathan Dirt works great @ smells like frosting! Any suggestions for hairspray hair? Sometimes I need to curl it and it has too much hairspray in it I have dark hair? Thanks
I put my hair in a ponytail and a headband on bad hair days, easy!
I put my hair up in a ponytail and throw in a hat to cover up my bad looking hair day!!
I bought some of these and they are so darn cute and stylish. Love them! Can’t get enough of them!
@Jody – Yay! I’m wearing one right now. Welcome to the Live Savvy club ;)
When having bad hair day, I put some CORNSTARCH baby powder in my palm, rub hands together, then run thru hair at roots. The cornstarch absorbs any extra oil. Then I’ll use some clips to pull front hair out of my face, or put a headband on. Instant cute! (AND CLEAN IN APPEARANCE!!)
