Am I the only one who wasn’t blown away by most of the looks at last night’s Oscars?! Charlize with her satin bosoms, Cameron ala Falcon Crest, and an over-worked SJP (me thinks she has been trying too hard of late)—none of their dresses or hair/makeup wowed me in the way I want to be wowed on Oscar night. There was one winner in the bunch who made me catch my breath and want to do my makeup on the spot. That’s how you should feel when you’re watching the Oscars—inspired! Sandy always look creamy and fresh and classic with nude lips, brown shadow, and peachy/pink cheeks. Last night, however, was something else. Totally golden-age glamour, and so fitting for her silver Marchesa gown. A few observations:
- Smooth, flawless skin topped with a bronzy-peach blush. Coral and peach are huge shades for spring and can stand in as a subtle bronzer when you want contouring—not a tan. Try: Sugarbomb from Benefit ($28)
- Lots of plummy-brown eyeshadow, used on lids AND as liner. Such a sultry, refined alternative to the usual gray smoky eye or black liner. Don’t forget to smudge! Try: Stila eyeshadow in Barefoot Contessa ($18)
- The real face-changer: pinky-red lipstick. Not too pink that it stole the show, but not standard-fare red. I’m dying to experiment with this shade, especially come summer. Try: Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick in Paris #22 ($30).
Whose look did YOU love/hate last night?
Filed Under: bronzer, oscars, pink lipstick, sandra bullock

I loved the color of SJP’s dress. The yellow was yummy. I liked the dress too, although a bit shapeless. I though the back was pretty with the flower details and the clasp on the back of the skirt. But her makeup and hair! Horrendous! She overdid the self-tanning spray and her skin looked yellow and she was even more wrinkly around her eyes than usual. The hair looked like some animals were nesting in it…or were about to.
Karen, agree that the yellow was so pretty! She would’ve looked beautiful in that dress w/o a stitch of makeup.
LOVED Meryl Streep’s look – I hope when I’m (however old she is) I can pull off full body white and a clean, glowing face like that.
But I’m with you on SB’s lip color – gorgie! I have a Cover Girl Lipstain (which I hate, but love the color) in a similar color that I’d love to find an equivalent to in the Stila stainstick!
SJP looked like a train wreck and was a horrid shade of oompa loompa orange. Penelope Cruiz though beautiful looked like she was wearing a red drape.
Bets you got it right! Sandy was the stunner of the night.
Can I give a shout out to Molly Ringwald though – perfect color!
I missed all the red carpet last night, but plan to watch the replay on Style this afternoon and do some catching up on E!
What I DID see were an absolutely stunning Meryl Streep (wearing Chris March! From Project Runway!) looking elegant and sophisticated, and Sandra Bullock looking more beautiful than I’ve EVER seen her on the red carpet!!!
LOVED Demi Moore’s dress. Didn’t get a good look at her hair/makeup.
Oh, I also noticed that Vera Farmiga, sitting on George’s right, was wearing something VERRRY similar to George’s date, sitting on his left – oopsies!
If I could have one night where I look as good as Sandra B. did last night – I would be one LUCKY GIRL! She was amazing. Just amazing. Couldn’t agree more.
I thought Penelope Cruz also looked great. I am such a fan of the burgundy color in her dress.
I hear ya sister! I’m so over the spray-tan/tanned skin.
And you are so spot on about Sandra Bullock. She was stunning, simply stunning!
I loved Anna Kendrick’s dress, but do you think it was the right color for her?
Anna looked a little washed out, and that seems silly for a 24 year old with amazing skin!
Demi – also amazing in that ginger dress and monochromatic makeup. That woman is ageless!
I loved what you said about being inspired watching the Oscars, I usually feel jealous! Maybe it’s time to change my attitude. I fell in love with Penelope’s dress, the colour especially. SJP has really tried too much recently and I didn’t like the dress she wore at all. But you inspired me, next year I’m not gonna be jealous, I’m gonna observe and learn!
