What an absolute frenzy Friday’s post created! Who knew that so many of you were struggling with frizzy hair, limp locks, or—so sorry—both?! I’d like to say it’s comforting to know that we are all in this boat together, but who am I kidding. I want answers. I want help! I want to stop praying to the hairbrush gods each morning to give me smooth, shiny, Texas-sized hair! So I called in a professional. Pearson Knight is a master stylist for Juut Salonspas in Minneapolis. His work appears on the runways at New York Fashion Week and regularly on the pages of glamorous glossies. Lucky for us, he also generously dispenses advice.

FIGHTING FRIZZ
- Shampoo less frequently. If hair is too clean, it only encourages frizz.
- Between shampoos, rinse well with water, followed by conditioner. Use cold water to rinse out most of the conditioner, leaving some in—this will lock in some moisture and help tame frizz.
- For CURLY hair, use a curl lotion like Aveda’s Be Curly if your hair texture is coarse, or a medium gel like Aveda Confixor if it’s fine.
- For STRAIGHT, frizzy hair, try shampooing with the same process above but use a styling lotion like Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener for blowouts or Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid if hair is on the fine side.
GET FULLER HAIR
- First and most important is to tell your stylist if you have trouble with volume. They should know how to cut your hair to enhance volume.
- Once you have the right cut, styling products and tools are your answer. Before blow-drying, add a volumizer at the roots, like Aveda’s Volumizing Tonic (Bets agrees—love this product!)
- If you’re using a hold product, check with your stylist to make sure it’s not too heavy for your hair type. You may need to switch to something lighter.
- Pre-dry your hair upside down to eliminate some moisture, focusing on the scalp.
- Flip your head over and blow dry the sides of your head first, followed by the top.
- For more staying power, add hairsray to inside middle of the hair, not just the exterior of your hair.
Whew! Like a good recipe, this looks like more work that it actually is. These Beauty Bets readers are going to get a little extra help: Laura, Michelle, and Jessica, the winners of the Living Proof giveaway! Please report back—I’d love to know how these products worked for you.

YAY! Thanks so much! Will definitely let you know how it goes.
So excited to give the product and these tips a whirl!
Along these lines to fight frizzies, I must recommend Aveda’s Brilliant ANTI-Humectant Pomade (for post blow-out) to repel water and curl, or the Brilliant Humectant Pomade which is pro-water to encourage and smooth curl. Both give a VERY shiny result!
Thanks so much for these tips. Looks like there’s hope for my frizzy anoying hair! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Aveda, now it’s time to try it.
