March 1
I’ve been doing battle with my hair all winter. As you can see, it’s long and straight and fairly flat so giving it volume is usually my mission. This year, however, I’ve been fighting frizz, fly-aways, and general unruliness. I tried different shampoos, more mousse, less conditioner, only to find out that what I was missing was MOISTURE. Below are the five products that gave me back my hair. And now I really curious: What do YOU use to keep your hair smooth and shiny?
p.s. Congratulations to Sarah B, Leigh, and Katrina, the winners of Friday’s freebies!

LOVE this stuff. And speaking of blow drying…call me crazy but I think my Revlon Ionic something-something-blah-blah blow dryer is RUINING my hair. In the future, would love to see you address hair dryers and iconic, vs. tourmaline, vs. ceramic? How much should one SAHM spend on a dryer that gets used 3x/week?
Last winter a friend introduced me to Dove Daily Moisture Therapy. It’s my frizz/static/flyaway solution! I think it was in the $4-5 range at Target or Walgreens. I keep one at home and one in my desk at work for emergencies.
#1 – I don’t heat style that often and don’t wash it every day.
#2 – I am sure to take care of my SCALP in conjunction with taking care of my hair (with an oily scalp, I currently alternate shampooing with Head & Shoulders which makes my hair SUPER shiny and does a great job of nixing build-up).
#3 – Aveda’s Black Malva S&C used about once a week.
Like you, I have pin straight, long hair. It was once described by a stylist as “fine, but in large quantity.” I swear by Bumble and Bumble’s Leave In/Rinse Out Conditioner and Thickening Spray. In combination with a little Brilliantine rubbed on the ends = my hair looks awesome.
Great topic, Bets! I just started using Matrix Biolage’s leave-in balm on top of the smoothing milk I use year-round. I have to condition my hair every day because my ends (fritzed from summer highlights) are so dry – and the cream products really help.
Would *love* to try that Fekkai gloss though! I’ve heard really good things about it.
LOVE the INtelligent Nutrients Gloss!
