I have to give Covergirl credit for its clever new campaign: “Match Your Department Store Shade for Less.” The online tool is fairly straightforward: You select your favorite makeup counter product, and the site spits out the “comparable” Covergirl product. It’s a fun little game, and I played it several times using some of my go-to prods. Although the department store pickings are still a little slim, I managed to make these matches:
Chanel Glossimer in Rose Sand = Covergirl Wetslicks Amazemint Lipgloss in Pink Positive
Diorshow Mascara = Covergirl Lashblast Volume Blasting Mascara
Clinique Quickliner for Eyes in Dark Chocolate = Covergirl Perfect Point Eyeliner in Espresso
Stila Lip & Cheek Stain = Covergirl Outlast Lipstain
Stila Lip & Cheek Stain = Covergirl Outlast Lipstain
This, of course, got me thinking exactly what Covergirl wants me to think: That I could save boatloads of money if I purchased their products instead of the usual suspects (true), and that drugstore products can be just as good as pricier ones (also true). But I have to laugh a little because no $5 mascara—and I’ve tried most of them—can compete with Diorshow, and y’all know what I think about CG lipstains!
What Covergirl products do you love? Are you going to use this tool?

I’ve never used Diorshow mascara so I checked out its website; do women really use Azure Blue Mascara.
But back to Cover Girl–it’s been a long time since I’ve used CG products, but I remember using them once, long-long ago. With this new tool, I just may check out a few of their products again.
Blue mascara sounds scary and is a bit tricky to use, but if you apply it just to the tips of your lashes the color really whitens and brightens your eyes. It’s an advanced move!
I am so trying the Diorshow mascara tip…I love it…and I think at 37 I am ready for an “advanced move”. As far as the CoverGirl color matching is concerned…I think I’ll stick with my department store makeup. Whenever I try something like CoverGirl I end up unhappy.
You totally deserve the Diorshow to go with your fabulous new ‘do! (and at 32 I am kind of over taking chances on CG, too. Don’t tell.)
I am a huge fan of LashBlast and LashBlast Length — both are fantastic, in my opinion. I use solely waterproof mascaras, so I know that results definitely vary when compared to their washable counterparts.
