Dear Makeup Brushes: Please Stop Your Shedding

My friend Michelle recently lamented: “Is it just me, or do even the most expensive makeup brushes shed?” Her sweet (and British!) husband Dave promptly brushed a few bristles from her face. Romantic, yes, but she makes a good point. The shedding has got to stop. I’ve had the best luck with Bobbi Brown brushes—super soft yet firm, pricey but not OOC, and infrequent shedders. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for other department store brands. Which is why I so wearily eyed Ecotool’s new brushes. The fact that Alicia Silverstone is endorsing them only made me wish that Paul Rudd was pictured on the box instead. Anyway. Despite cheesy floral packaging, ugly hemp case, and suspect $15 price tag for FOUR BRUSHES, I gave them a whirl. The synthetic bristles feel luxurious. The bamboo handles and aluminum ferrules (the things that wrap around the bristles) are sturdy but light. I discovered a favorite new tool in the Finishing Brush, a feathery number that proved perfect for dusting on translucent powder. But the real kicker: So far, no shedding. I so won’t be using these to clean my car.
